What's the big deal about Gmail?

I have been using Gmail, Google's e-mail service, since it was offered to Blogger users a while ago. Their major feature is offering 1 GB of e-mail storage. For whatever reason it's a heavily desired service and the only way to get it is to be a Blogger user or get invited. I keep up with several forums on DSL Reports and any mention of a Gmail invite spurs huge "begging threads" where one person after another will simply beg for an invite. I gave away 6 of them in a begging thread. I like the service for a webmail service, but it's really nothing to go crazy over. I can't wait until tonight, go Yankees! I'll be able to throw it in the face of some Red Sox fans tonight if the Yankees win. I'm only worried about the third game at this point, Pedro Martinez against our rookie Brad Haulsey. We'll see how that goes. Until tomorrow.. --------
